Vera Posey Mundy

Apr 17, 1930 — Sep 29, 2026

Silverstreet, SC

Vera Mae Posey Mundy passed into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday September 29th 2026 at her home in Silverstreet SC. She was 96 years old. Vera Mae Posey was born April 17, 1930 in Aiken county to Marie and Gary Posey. She was one of six siblings who were raised on the family farm in the Vaucluse, South Carolina area.

Several times it seemed her life would be cut short before she reached adulthood. Once she was bitten by a Canebrake rattlesnake in the bean field, and another time she had severe pneumonia and spent many days in the hospital. She survived it all and married Daniel Edward Mundy and had three children; Vernon Edward Mundy, Darrell Robin Mundy and Joel Lee Mundy. Vera worked at the Seminole Mill in Clearwater for many years and retired. She was a faithful member of Mercy Gate church in Bath South Carolina. She was a caregiver and showed mercy by sewing and cooking and helping people in many practical ways. There are many children who attended church because she invited them and picked them up and took them with us. When I was a boy (Joel) she would also feed the neighborhood kids in our home any time she thought they were not getting enough food. During the Days of Royal Rangers ministry at Bath Pentecostal Church (Mercy Gate), she would sew the Ranger patches on the boys and Leaders uniforms! The boys lovingly called her “Commander Mom”!

Vera lived with Joel and Lori Mundy for the last decade of her life and had her own “tiny house” the last several years, and was active in the life and ministry of Glory Tabernacle Church in Newberry, SC. Vera is survived by one son, Joel Mundy (Lori), two grandsons, Jacob Mundy (Kaitlyn) and Jonathan Mundy, and three great grandchildren, Liam, Charlotte and Eden Mundy. She is also survived by two siblings; her brother Lanier Edward Posey, and a sister Velma Wiseman (William). She is preceded in death by her mother, Marie Posey and father, Gary Posey and two sons, Darrell R Mundy and Vernon E Mundy; her brothers, Almond “Al” Posey, and Francis Marion Posey, and sister Esther Smith.

Her funeral and Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 5th at Mercy Gate Church, 3755 Jefferson Davis Highway Warrenville, S.C. 29851. Family viewing will be at 12 noon at the church, and visitation from 12:30 to 1pm. The service will begin at 1pm with Pastor Bill Branch and Jacob Mundy officiating. Graveside at Sunset Memorial gardens after the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Mercy Gate Church, Drawer H, Bath, SC 29816.
