Ms. Sharon Margaret Brokaw Tanner Augusta, GA. Ms. Sharon Margaret Brokaw Tanner passed into the arms of her Savior and Friend, Jesus, on September 15th, 2015, while surrounded by her family and friends, after fighting a 5 year 3 month battle with GBM cancer. Sharon was 63 years old. Sharon was born December 22nd, 1951, in Greenwood, MS, to Bill and Peggy Brokaw, but grew up in Tuscumbia, AL. Sharon was a member of Curtis Baptist Church andtaught at Curtis Baptist School for 20 years. She was a lover of people. Those of us who had the privilege to know her have experienced that love, from her beautiful smile to her hearty laugh and caring ways. Sharon was an avid gardener and photographer. She had an excitement for life that was contagious. Within the years of her battle, she pushed herself to learn new things, and in the process, she touched our lives with gentleness and beauty. Her home was an open door.. her love of hospitality and her generous spirit was felt by everyone who walked into her life. She was a woman of great courage and abiding faith in Jesus Christ Her Savior. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her children, Logan Noel Tanner (Sara Charezaie), Tabitha Tanner Carro (Gabriel Carro), Nathan Tanner, and Bethany Tanner and special friend, Chris Chiappetto. She is also survived by her sister Shawn Nesbitt(Steve Nesbitt); nieces, Melissa Clark (Stuart), Kimberly Hughston (Hal); great-nieces, Kate Clark and Lucy Hughston; loving nephew, Jackson Clark; mother-in-law, Joanne Tanner; and great-aunt, Margaret Garland. The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Mott and nurse Sheila Hall along with Trinity Hospice for their care for Sharon. They also want to express their deep appreciation for Barbara Smith, Kelly Day, and the Caregivers of MYD Services for their support and love shown to Sharon. Also to April Lowry and her Sunday School class at Curtis Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at Curtis Baptist Church, Thursday September 17th, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. EST, with Reverend Sherrell Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside burial service will take place at Colbert Chapel in Tuscumbia, Alabama on Saturday September 19th at 11:00 a.m. CST,with Brother Phillip Russell officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association or to Curtis Baptist School in Augusta, Georgia.
