Richard "Dick" Stanley Schaper of Hephzibah GA passed away September 9, 2026 after an extended illness. Dick was born February 23, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas to Dillard and Maxine Schaper. He was raised on a small farm and graduated from Mulvane High School in 1959. He joined the US Army in 1961, beginning a 24 year career and retiring as a Master Sergeant.
Always a dedicated worker, his interesting career included being selected to work directly for General rank officers in Germany for a total of eight years, which involved travel all over Europe. His assignments also included Okinawa and South Korea, as well as in the states. Retiring in 1985, he followed his work ethic and became a store manager for Western Auto, and then Auto Zone for 21 years. He loved his work whatever it was, and considered his work associates as part of an extended family. He then worked for Big Dog Tree company in Augusta GA for 18 years, as a driver for expedited delivery of equipment. He especially enjoyed those years also working as a crew member on high performance sprint cars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Lee, and a brother Kenneth (Emily Schaper) in Ohio, and sister Kathleen (Ray Cowin) and family David (Stephanie Cowin), Mike (Kathy Cowin), and Lori Cowin in Kansas.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Mulvane, KS.
