Paul Guffey

Paul Guffey, Jr. Evans, Ga., Paul Guffey, Jr., age 83, former resident of Athens, Tennessee, died September 3, 2014, at Westwood Ext. Care. He was the son of the late Paul, Sr. and Lillie Leamon Guffey and was preceded in death by three sisters; Wanda Guffey Allen, Sylvia Guffey Gouge and Carlotta Guffey Mazza. Paul was a member of First Baptist Church, West Lake Country Club, and TAPPI. He was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and did graduate work at University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee. Paul served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Paris, France. After the War, Paul went to work at Bowater Paper Company in Calhoun, Tennessee for eleven years. He and his family then moved to Augusta, Georgia, where he worked at Augusta Newsprint, helping with their start-up. After twenty five years at Augusta Newsprint, where he retired as Assistant Mill Manager, he worked for Abitibi Sales for another nine years. Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Velda Feezell Guffey, one son Jonathan Paul (Beth) Guffey, Clayton, Georgia, and one daughter Kathy Guffey (Pete) Hicks, Evans, Georgia. Three grandsons; David Paul (Emily R.) Hicks, Grovetown, Georgia, Casey N. Hicks, Evans, Georgia, and Ethan D. Guffey, Clayton, Georgia. Two great grandchildren; Clayton D. Hicks and Addison Claire Hicks, Grovetown, Georgia. One sister, Daris Guffey (Norman) Anderson, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews.
