Patricia Turner Hitchcock

January 7, 1936 — April 12, 2025

Patricia Turner Hitchcock, lovingly known as Pat, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, in Aiken, South Carolina, at the age of 89. Born in 1936 at home in Croton Falls, New York—as was her mother before her—Pat was a proud daughter of her hometown. She carried a deep love for her community throughout her life and devoted herself to service in countless ways. Pat graduated from Purdys Central High School and went on to complete her nursing training at North Country Community Hospital. She dedicated her professional life to caring for others, working in local nursing homes and serving as an EMT at regional equestrian events. She was a charter member of the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where she responded to emergency calls with compassion and skill. She also served the North Salem Central School District as a trusted school bus driver for many years. Pat’s life was rooted in giving. She served for over 30 years as an election officer with the Westchester County Board of Elections and volunteered with FISH, helping neighbors get to appointments and errands. She sat on the Board of Directors for Friends of Karen, supporting families with seriously ill children. Pat was also a beloved member of the North Salem Seniors, the Red Hat Salemettes, and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she held leadership roles. She was a longtime and faithful member of the Croton Falls Community Church. Her many contributions were honored in 1997 when she was named Citizen of the Year by the North Salem Chamber of Commerce, and again in 2017, when she was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for her lifetime of service. Pat found joy in the simple and silly. She loved costuming with her dear friend Marilyn Daley and collected whimsical nun and skunk figurines that brought smiles to all who visited. Her humor, warmth, and energy brightened every room she entered. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Maude Turner; sisters, Barbara Brady and Betty Turner; her husband, David Hitchcock; and her sweet companion, Fred Hayn. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Hitchcock-Myers and husband John Myers; daughters of the heart, Mindy Brady, and Joanne Sprenker and husband Jon Sprenker. Pat was the cherished grandmother of Forrest Larson and husband Ben Larson, George Butterick V, Alan Myers, and Crystal Myers, and proud great-grandmother to Evren, Easton, Audra, and Sawyer. She is also lovingly remembered by Joanne’s children, Christopher, Collin, Will, and Lindsay; and by Abe Herrera, her Gentleman Friend met through serendipity at 80 .

Patricia Turner Hitchcock will be remembered for her selflessness, generosity, joyful spirit, and unwavering commitment to her family, friends, and community. Her life made the world brighter, and her legacy will live on in all who knew and loved her. In Pat’s own words: “Smile—it makes people wonder what you’ve been up to.” A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 26, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps Headquarters, 14 Daniel Road, North Salem, NY 10560. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat’s memory to the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps , the Croton Falls Fire Department, or the Croton Falls Community Church .
