Miriam Christine Edwards Heckman
January 1949 – March 2026
Miriam Christine Edwards Heckman passed away in March 2026 at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering love, faith, and charity that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born in January 1949, Miriam grew up with a deep appreciation for family, friendship, and hard work. Never meeting a stranger, she was always willing to give whatever she had, a level of generosity and kindness that knew no boundaries. She carried herself with a quiet strength that was unmatched, offering comfort and encouragement to everyone fortunate enough to know her. As a single mother of four for many years, she instilled that same strength, compassion, and giving nature in her children, who have carried that legacy forward into their own lives.
Miriam loved unconditionally. Her love was constant and steadfast, given freely and without judgment. She created a home filled with kindness, patience, and understanding. Lovingly known as “Nonnie,” she treasured her role as grandmother above all else. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she poured into them boundless affection, wisdom, and joy. She was often a muse for their creativity and imagination—listening to their stories, admiring their artwork, encouraging their dreams, and inspiring them simply by being present and believing in them. Whether through warm hugs, gentle advice, or special shared moments, Nonnie made each child feel uniquely and deeply cherished.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan James Heckman, Sr., in 2008. Their marriage was one of partnership and devotion, and his memory remained close to her heart throughout the years that followed.
She is survived by her four children, Miriam Candice (William) Heckman Dicker; John Marion (Georgia) Heckman; Alan James Heckman, Jr.; and Crystal Lee Heckman Alence; along with ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy.
She will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her quiet resilience, and the steady presence she provided to her family and friends. Though she is deeply missed, the unconditional love she shared so freely remains her greatest and most lasting gift.
