Michael Ekkehard Reinsch

January 28, 1947 — June 22, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael Ekkehard Reinsch, a beloved brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. Michael passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at age 75. He passed peacefully at the Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA with his daughter, Jody Davis, son-in-law, Adam Davis, and partner, Mary Green, by his bedside. Michael was born on January 28, 1947, in Hof, Germany to Erika and Gunter Reinsch. He came to the United States with his parents and older brother on October 23, 1953. They arrived by airplane in New York City and traveled by train to Kansas City, MO. Michael spent the rest of his childhood primarily in Butler, MO, residing there until 1958. He also served in the Naval Air Reserves for several years after high school. He later studied graphic design at the Kansas City Art Institute where he perfected his craft. This later resulted in an extremely successful lifetime career in graphic design. In Kansas City, he married Gayl Embrey Reinsch, and had his first daughter, Myka. He later remarried to Patricia Flora Reinsch and soon thereafter had his second daughter, Jody. Michael moved his family to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1980 after falling in love with its abundant natural beauty and beaches. After moving to the island, Michael and Patsy gave birth to Michael’s third daughter, Monica. He was first employed by Smelkinson/Ceratti Advertising Agency until he decided to open his own business. Michael Reinsch Design was officially open for business in 1985 and was successful for decades to come. Island residents recognized Michael from his daily runs on the beach in Palmetto Dunes and remember him driving up and down hwy 278 in various classic European sportscars over the years he resided there. Following a thriving career in design, Michael relocated to the Lake Oconee area in Georgia. Michael leaves behind his three daughters, Myka (Eirik) Sinclair, Jody (Adam) Davis, and Monica (Joseph) Capizzi; his brother, Roger Reinsch; his wife Gayl Embry Reinsch; his wife Patricia Diane Reinsch; his wife Tracy Hayden; his partner, Mary Green; his 5 grandchildren and grand dog-daughter. A private service will be held by his family in his remembrance. The family asks that donations be made to Second Helpings, nonprofit food rescue and distribution network, of Hilton Head Island, in his honor.
