North Augusta

Michael Edward Pinto (“Mickey”), age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 22, 2026, in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Michael was born on August 17, 1951, in Lodi, California. A man of deep courage, integrity, and quiet strength, he lived a life defined by service, love, and unwavering dedication to those he protected and cared for.

Michael proudly served 20 years in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He served in combat with distinction, earning three Purple Hearts, and was a member of Special Forces, including the 27/502, 101st Airborne Division, the Strike Force “Widow Makers,” and the 2nd “O Deuce.” His military service reflected his bravery, discipline, and lifelong commitment to defending others.

Beyond his service, Michael was a gentle and patient soul. He loved gardening, fishing, and fixing things, and he had a great sense of humor that brought light to everyday moments. He was an incredible teacher and role model—kind, dependable, and steady. To those who knew him, he was a protector in every sense of the word.

Michael was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man whose presence made people feel safe and valued. Though cancer took him from this world, the love he gave and the example he set remain a beacon of light for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his daughter, Regina Pinto; his brothers, Terry Pinto and John Welch; his sister Carolyn (Cookie) Curtis Welch; his nieces and nephews, Tabitha Pinto, Marcus Pinto, and his beloved puppy, Bruce.

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deboraha Pinto; his parents, Mabel and Edward Pinto; his brothers, Richard Welch , Larry, and Lewis Pinto; his sister, Josephine; and many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Michael’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
