Mary was born in Little Falls, MN to Frank and Madelyn (nee Meyer) Voltin on October 19, 1950. She graduated Onamia High School in 1968.

She worked in various roles in life including Larson Boats, operated dairy farms with former husband Frank Athmann, and her own craft store in Pierz where she created unique home décor and floral arrangements. She also created the flower arrangements for both of her daughters weddings. She mainly worked in the insurance business with Bieganek Insurance Agency in Little Falls, MN and Patti Hoffman Insurance Agency in South Bend, IN.

She was a big sports fan including watching her favorite teams on t.v. including Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Timberwolves and anything Notre Dame college (but with no sound because she thought the commentors were annoying). Her favorite quote was “There’s no crying in baseball”.

She is survived by: Daughters: Michelle (Christopher) Mayer and Lisa (Matthew) Krog. Grandchildren: Stacee (Emma) Athmann-Driscoll, Mareena (Alex Hayes) Athmann, Thomas Mayer, Jordyn Krog, Christopher Mayer, Taylor Krog, and Hunter Krog. Great-grandchild: Alic Athmann-Driscoll. Siblings: Bernette Ratzloff, Dale (Kathy Stokke) Voltin, Marvin (Kris) Voltin, Bonnie (Brian Moore) Thanos, Carol Voltin and many nieces and nephews. Former husband: Frank Athmann, in-laws: Virgina (Jerry) Kapsner, Mary (Sev) Poser, and Alice (Bill) Bayerl.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, sister Marin Boser Johnson, brother in laws: Mark Thanos, Arnie Ratzloff, niece Yvette LaPolice and her former in laws: Margaret and Norbert Athmann.

In lieu of memorials, donations can be made to the Minnesota Twins Community Fund which trains the next generation of great athletes.

A private memorial service will be held in Georgia as well as a celebration of life being held in Minnesota at later dates.
