Marvin H. Tawney, 89, of Augusta, Georgia passed away on June 24, 2025 in North Augusta, South Carolina.
Marvin was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on January 20, 1936. He grew up in Martinsville, Virginia. He served two years in the National Guard and continued active duty in the Army for 20 years.
After retiring from the military, he worked for the Augusta Police Department – now known as Richmond County Sherrif’s Office – then decided to further his career by working for the Marshall’s Department for 42 years. After retiring, he worked part time as a security officer for the Richmond County Courthouse. Marvin loved his family, enjoyed going fishing, having fish fry’s and making his famous catfish stew!
Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Tawney and daughter, Elizabeth Sharon Tucker.
He is survived by his son, Mickey Tawney; daughter, Mitzi Tawney Graybeal; grandchildren, Christian Thomas, Nicole Thomas Porath, Taylor Thomas and Alison Tawney; great-grandchildren, McKenzi Thomas, Dakota Thomas, Sebastian Goodrich and Logan Tawney.
Memorial services with full military honors will be held at Fairhaven funeral home on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 6-8pm.
