Leona Swanson

Leona H. Swanson of Modoc, SC, passed away on April 8, 2026, at the age of 87.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Swanson; her parents, Leon A. and Viola (Simpson) Hewes; her sisters, JoLena Hewes and Rose-Ellen Small; and her brother, Manley Hewes along with a granddaughter, Tabatha Pearl and a great grandson Alan Newsome.

She is survived by her twin sister, Leola Pingree; her sister, Joy Jandreau; her sons, Linwood (Alma) Pearl and Randy Pearl; and her daughter, Linda (Vic) Rice. She was a cherished grandmother and had a special relationship with her granddaughters, Allison (Daniel) Marshall and Shelbie (Josh) Marshall, who were fortunate to share many happy memories with her.

Leona lived a life full of farming, raising horses, sewing, quilting, and caring for her dogs and cats. She leaves behind one special fur baby, Sabrina, who will be cared for with much love. She was a Christian and a believer in our Lord. She will be remembered for her sweet, gentle spirit and her willingness to help others along with always having a smile on her face.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Alzheimer’s Association. The family also wishes to acknowledge the care Crescent Hospice provided to Leona during her last months. Special thanks to Aude Turman for your support.
