Karl R. Summers April 13, 1947 – May 21, 2022 Karl R. Summers, entered into rest on May 21, 2022, at his residence after an extended illness, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Pfaffenhofen a.d. Ilm in Germany to the late Bradley and Olga (Gorlich) Summers. Karl was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving in the US Army for 11 years, receiving multiple commendations, to include the Purple Heart. After serving his country, other careers included postal work, becoming a certified EMT with the Richmond County Ambulance Service, serving in Georgia’s first SWAT POST, and working at the Augusta Regional Airport. The majority of his career was served on the Special Response Team at Wackenhut Services, Inc., where he eventually retired in 2010 after 27 years. He also served as a Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy. Karl was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed building and flying RC airplanes, building model tanks, and serving his community. He worshipped at The Assembly at Augusta where he loved to fellowship with his friends and looked forward to Thursday night bible study with his neighbors, Frank and Pauline Pacheco. Karl was a generous and giving man with a witty sense of humor, always making jokes, and always upbeat. He enjoyed life, loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He is survived by his children: Denise Summers, Elizabeth Ann Harris (Joey), David Monroe Summers (Roshayla) and Lauren Nichole Summers; his former spouse Thanh Thí Summers; grandchildren: Breanne Taylor Summers, David Monroe Summers Jr., Joseph Karl Summers and Isabella Harris; great grandchildren: Aaliyah Sky Summers, Braylen Lawrence, Brielle Love Lawrence, and Riley Rose Woods, as well nieces and nephews. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 10:00am at: Bellevue Memorial Gardens, 4501 Wrightsboro Rd, Grovetown, GA 30813 with Pastor Baxter Stanley officiating. Flowers may be sent to his home address: 4813 Hereford Farm Rd, Evans, GA. Friends are welcome to visit his residence any time before the services or after.
