James (Bub) Eugene Rich, Jr., passed away unexpectantly on Saturday, January 31, 2026. He was born in Savannah, GA, on August 14, 1954, to James E. and Lida Holland Rich.
Bub attended Richmond County schools, obtained his GED and went to work for Continental Can Company as a papermaker. He was proud of his work and made suggestions for time management as well as for more efficient use of machinery.
Bub trained as an arborist and went into business trimming and cutting down trees. He could calculate where they would safely fall in extremely tight spaces, which they did, and he would tell you about it every time he saw you. Bub was congenial and genuinely interested in anyone he met. On many occasions he helped people in whatever capacity he could but mostly he encouraged people to have faith in G. He made sure to tell everyone that God loves them.
Bub loved to sing bass and did his best to carry that part at family get-together singtime. His favorite hymn was “Blessed Redeemer,” and he liked rendering it acapella.
Preceding Bub in death is his father.
To cherish his memory and to look forward to that hope to be reunited with him in Eternity are his son Jay, daughter Cara Sampson (Danny), granddaughter Leah Copeland, grandson Jason Peck (Kayla), and four great-grandchildren as well as Amber and Allie, almost daughters; mother, sister Carol Montgomery (Leck), and brothers, Dennis (Debbie) and Joe. There are many nieces and nephews as well as with the great nieces and nephews.
