James Floyd Hewlett

James (Jim) F. Hewlett of Evans, GA, age 92.

Mr. Hewlett was born in the Finger Lakes region of New York State in 1934. He enlisted in The United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War period, discharged honorably as a Sergeant. After leaving The Marines, Jim moved to Southern California in search of new opportunities.

Jim worked for Douglas Aircraft Company in California where he met the love of his life, Miss Willie (Betty) Gyger of Puxico, Missouri. They were married in 1956 and resided in Lomita, California. James went to work for The US Postal Service as a letter carrier, serving for 30 years out of the Lomita, California post office.

The couple moved in retirement in 1989 to Evans, following their daughter and her husband. Jim and Betty were members of the congregation of Warren Baptist Church; Joy Club and Sunday School for many years. Jim was an avid stamp collector, landscaper and loved all things pertaining to the Old West.

James was preceded in death by his wife Betty and sons; James and Stephen . He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Mitchell (Larry) of Evans, GA.
