Biography Frances Meeker Polly Frances Moss Meeker, age 101, died at Trinity Hospital on Thursday, November 15th, 2012.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24th at Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, Georgia with Rev. Greg Porterfield and Rev. Pat Williams officiating.Interment at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York will follow at a later date.Frances was born on her grandfather's farm in Halifax County, Virginia to Robert Clinton Moss, Sr. and Novella Epperson Moss.She grew up in Richmond, Virginia.She studied history and literature at the College of William and Mary and after graduating in 1933, taught in Virginia schools until World War II, when she served in the Navy as a WAVE.After the war, she received her Master's Degree from Columbia University and married Harry Clyde Meeker.Frances and Harry lived in New York City and later moved to Eastchester, New York where they raised their four children.She was a reference librarian for 19 years at the Mt. Vernon Public Library.In retirement, Frances studied opera, yoga, and belly dancing and traveled the globe.She moved to North Augusta, SC in 1993, then to Evans, where she became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.She enjoyed books, flowers, gardening, music, theater, and the beach.She attributed her longevity to good genes, continuous learning, the grace of God, and a little Bailey's Irish Cream in her Sunday morning coffee.With a sense of style and appreciation of beautiful things, she was a woman ahead of her time, living life to the fullest, with a sharpintellect and a keen sense of humor.A truly remarkable lady, her positive outlook, generous spirit, and concern for others made her an inspiration to all who met her.She was preceded in death by her brother, R. Clinton Moss, Jr. and her husband.She is survived by sons, James David Meeker (Blanca) and Harry Clifford Meeker and daughters, Carol M. Martin and Mary C. Meeker.In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, David and Erin Meeker (fiance David Sallette), Nicole Petroski (Jason), Daniel Losapio (Jen), Amy Graunke (Steve), Michael and Crystal Martin (fiance Garrett Scearce) as well as great grandchildren, Quinn, Noah, Adrienne, and Luke Petroski, Anika and Carson Graunke.Memorials may be made to the bus ministry at Wesley United Methodist Church.
