Evelyn Roller Lester

Evelyn Roller Lester, 96, of Evans, Georgia, passed away on June 28, 2026, at home in Evans.

Evelyn was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Ellery A. Roller and Thelma Grace Roller née Clasby on April 6, 1930. She attended high school at East Stone Gap,Virginia. S. She earned a degree in Education from Augusta College.

She was married to Benjamin H. Lester, Jr. at East Stone Gap Methodist Church August 1954.

She worked as a teacher in Augusta, GA for several years. She then worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Oral Biology, Medical College of Georgia until her retirement.

She was among the first women admitted to the Richmond County Lion’s Club. She was involved in Girl Scouts as a leader. She was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church until becoming an Episcopalian in her later years. She loved her church.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ellery A. Roller, Jr., and William Oliver Roller. Her beloved husband of 62 years, Ben Lester, Jr.

Evelyn is survived by Margaret A. Jordan (Russell), Susan Savage, Benjamin H. Lester, III (Linda); her two granddaughters, Blanche E. Torrence (Reuben) and Isadora G. Savage. Two great-grandsons, London C. Graves and Oliver W. Lester. Many deeply loved nieces, nephews, and cousins survive her.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Reuben Torrence, London Graves, Oliver Lester, Bobby Pippin, Billy Roller, Chris Roller. Urn bearer will be Jacqueline McDonald.

Visitation with the family will follow the service.

Funeral services will be held a 2:00 PM, July 18, 2026 at Our Savior Episcopal Church with the Reverend Al Crumpton of Our Savior officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in East Stone Gap Cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements are by Fairhaven Funeral Home.
