Augusta, Georgia Mrs. Ethleen Cater Scarborough, of Augusta, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 4, 2016.She was 85 years old. Mrs. Scarborough was born in Fort Valley, Georgia on August 7, 1930 to Rufus Jinks and Fanny Drew Cater.She lived in Augusta since the late 50’s and raised her family here.She retired from Walter Sheppard Community Blood Bank.Mrs. Scarborough was an avid golfer and bridge player and was a ranked tennis player in her youth.She was a member of the CSRA Bridge Club, the Georgia Ladies Golf Association, and the Goshen Ladies Golf Association.She enjoyed being on the ratings board and playing golf courses around the state to rank them.She loved German Shepherds, gardening, Cadillacs, and a good, dry martini. She was an amazing cook and published cookbook author whose “Ritz to Grits” sold thousands of copies.One of her pound cake recipes remains a top rated recipe on Southern Living.com.Her zest for life and laughter will be treasured by her family.She was always a consumate hostess who loved to entertain friends and family, throwing parties for 20 or 100 easily.She traveled extensively with her husband, Randall, and especially loved her time in Spain and Hong Kong. Mrs. Scarborough was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Randall Malloy Scarborough and her eldest child, Steven Drew Scarborough.She is survived by her devoted son, Joe Cater, of Augusta;her daughter, Lela Randall Scarborough, and her husband, Andrew C. Blair, of West Kingston, Rhode Island; along with seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A special thank you to her loving grandson, Joseph, who cared for her at home where she was happy and to Heartland Hospice for their professional and compassionate care; Mary, Rick, and Ashanti, our angel. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 10, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Poteet Funeral Home Chapel.The burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
