In Loving Memory of Emily Cervantes
October 9, 1947 – August 2, 2025
It is with deep love and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Emily Cervantes, who departed this life peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born on October 9, 1947, in Santa Ana, California, to Frances and Carlos Licerio. Emily was a woman of incredible heart, warm, welcoming, and full of life. She was the center of our family, a steady light who nurtured us with her strength, her stories, her dancing feet, and her unforgettable cooking. Her home was a sanctuary, always open, always full of music, laughter, and the comforting aroma of something made with love.
Emily was the proud and devoted mother of son: Conrad Castro and his wife Veronica, daughter: Tyra Hendrix, and son: James Castro. She was the deeply loved grandmother of 12 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren, each of whom carry her spirit and legacy with them. She is also survived by her loving sisters: Becky Zepeda, Nellie Trujillo, Rosa Murrietta, and Yolanda Murrietta.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Frances Galvan Licerio, father: Carlos Licerio, and her brother: Frank Licerio — and we take comfort knowing she is reunited with them now.
To know Emily was to be known — completely, unconditionally, and without judgment. She had a way of making everyone feel like family. Whether through a hot plate of food, a favorite song, or a spontaneous dance in the living room, she gave of herself endlessly and joyfully. Her laughter, her strength, and her deep love for togetherness are gifts we will carry with us always.
Emily made the courageous choice to return home for her final days, where she passed with dignity and peace, surrounded by love. In doing so, she showed us once again what it means to live — and leave — with grace.
Details for a memorial gathering will be shared by the family at a later date.
Until then, we invite you to honor Emily by turning up your favorite song, dancing in your kitchen, sharing a meal with someone you love, or opening your door to someone who needs it. That was her way — and it lives on in all of us.
