Elizabeth Bradley Brown, affectionately known as "Liz," "Lizzy," and "Lipstick," was born on September 19, 1937, in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, to the late Joseph and Martha Washington Bradley. She was raised in Orangeburg County, where she received her education through the Orangeburg County school system.
Elizabeth wore many hats throughout her life — homemaker, nanny, and hospitality professional — and it was through her work in hotel hospitality that she met the love of her life, Leon Brown, who preceded her in death.
Those who knew Liz knew one thing for certain: she was always happy and she loved people. That love of people and love of God found its fullest expression on the day she made her dedication to Jehovah God in July 1990, when she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. From that day forward, she poured herself into sharing the good news with others and nurturing her spiritual family through warm gatherings and get-togethers that bore the mark of her generous spirit.
Her smile was infectious. Her hugs and kisses were the sweetest. She had a gift for making others laugh — whether she was cutting up over the Three Stooges or simply being her irresistibly joyful self. If you ever found yourself watching the Three Stooges with her — even if you didn't find them the least bit funny — her laughter would have you in stitches before you knew it. Music moved her, and when a good song came on, she moved with it. Her love of music and dancing was just another way she spread joy to everyone around her. To be in her presence was to feel lighter.
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her beautiful memories her son, John (Lisa) Brown of North Charleston, SC; daughters, Annette (Jared) Singleton of Goose Creek, SC, and Teyaka (Gregory) Scott of Hephzibah, GA; one grandson, Jamonte Brown of Goose Creek, SC; and two bonus granddaughters, Shareka Black of Atlanta, GA, and Lakisha Black of Newberry, SC. She also leaves one cousin who was raised as a brother, Bobby Washington.
Also mourning her loss are her brothers and sisters-in-law: Vergeree Brown of Miami, FL; Silas Brown and his wife; Jessie Brown of Galivants Ferry, SC; Betty (Johnny) Gause of Sumter, SC; Mable (Larry) Oliver of Galivants Ferry, SC; and Lola Brown of Cross, SC. Her stepsisters-in-law, Julia B. Dixon of New Jersey, Janie Gilliard of New York, and Rose Gilliard of Eutawville, SC, also survive her, along with her stepbrothers Herbert (Glena) Dixon and Lee (Rose) Dixon of Miami, FL, and Leon (Judy) Dixon of Chicago, IL. She is further survived by a cherished host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched.
Elizabeth Bradley Brown was a pleasure to be around — always. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, music, faith, and warm embraces that will not soon be forgotten.
"She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten."
