Denise Joy Corbari, passed away on Saturday June 20th, a few days short of her 61st birthday, at her home in Grovetown surrounded by her family.
Denise’s story began in northwest WA and continued across the world from Costa Rica, to Peru, to Kansas, to New York, and from Hawaii to Germany as well as countless locations throughout the United States. Denise carried home and community with her wherever she went while following her husband, George, of over 40 years as he pursued a career in the military. She cared deeply for her family and traveled to China to grow it by adopting their youngest three children. Her family reached far beyond her own children as Denise cared for countless children, soldiers, cadets, students, and anyone else in need of some kindness, unconditional love and a good meal. She lives on in those connections that include her husband George, daughters: Tera, Tasia, Brianna, Emmilie, Susan, Mandi; sons: David, Isaiah, Tyson and Tyler; and grandchildren: Taylor, Travis, Thomas, and Ellis.
Up until her cancer diagnosis, Denise worked as a paraprofessional at Euchee Creek Elementary. She graduated from Bakersfield North High School, Bakersfield, CA as Valedictorian in 1982 and was continuing her education at Augusta University with the goal of gaining a teaching certification in special education. She married George Corbari in July 1984 in Hesston, KS. Through George’s military service, Denise was able to touch the lives of countless service members and their families. She received the Mary E. Walker Award and Molly Pitcher Award from the US Army in recognition of her unwavering and selfless service to military families.
Denise joins her mother Shirley and grandson Nicolas in heaven. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on 1 August 2026 at the Grovetown Depot, Grovetown, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Denise’s name to New Day Foster Home - www.newdayfosterhome.com - a nonprofit that provides support for medically complex Chinese orphans while they wait for their forever families.
The family of Denise wishes to extend our sincere thanks to doctors and nurses at Doctors Hospital who helped navigate her initial diagnosis, to Dr. Squires and the team at Augusta Oncology, Drs Roman, Milgrom, Shah, Guru and the nurses at Georgia Cancer Center and Dr.s Kenji Yoshida, Marshall Weber, and Jaime Smith of WellStar Hospital in Augusta, GA. The family also wishes to acknowledge the love and support of the team at SouthEast Hospice who helped guide the family through the tender last days with Denise.
