Charles Hubie Stapleton

March 11, 1945 — June 11, 2026

Augusta

Charles Hubie Stapleton, of Augusta, GA, was called to Heaven by his Savior on June 11, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81.

He was born on March 11, 1945 in McIntyre, GA, to Hubie and Lucy Stapleton. He attended Baldwin County High School. At 25, he married the love of his life, Jonnie Pennington, in Aiken, SC, on December 1, 1970.

Shortly before marrying Jonnie, he was honorably discharged from the US Navy after proudly serving in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

After leaving the US Navy, he began his career with Farrens Tree Service where he moved up the ranks quickly. He was eventually named Vice President and held that title until he retired in 1994. Retirement didn’t last long and he sought out his next career as a Truck Driver until his second retirement in 2002.

Not being one to sit around, he started numerous “projects” around the house. He loved working in his flower beds and would spend hours nurturing each flower planted. While that was something he thoroughly enjoyed, his greatest joy was in being a grandfather and eventually a great-grandfather. He often teased that being a grandpa was his final career with no retirement in sight. He was a man of faith and family, often speaking Psalm 23 over any situation our family was faced with.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Hubie and Lucy Stapleton; numerous siblings; and granddaughter, Brittney Erin.

He is survived by his wife, Jonnie; daughters, Angie (Jed) Green and Endia Veal Whitaker; sister, Margaret (John) Chamness; brother, Alton Stapleton; grandson, Brent McLeod; granddaughters, Jennifer Odland and Rachel (Reece) Federman; great granddaughter, Grayson Federman; great grandsons, Chase Odland, and Parker Federman.

A private celebration of life will occur at a later date but family and friends are welcome to visit the family at their home.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire staff of Helping Hands Hospice; Dr. Preston Sparks, Dr. Benita Amin, LaShawn Oates NP, Rosalyn Belton NP, and support staff at the Charlie Norwood VA hospital; Dr. Locke Bryan and Dr. Asha Nayak at Wellstar Cancer Center; and Dr. Joseph TIngen at Piedmont Heart and Vascular Center.

All arrangements are by FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A special thank you to them and especially Stevie Rodriguez for making such a difficult process a little easier.
