Bonnie Marie Weathersbee

Bonnie Marie Weathersbee (Johnson), 47, passed away on August 11, 2026.

Born on April 3, 1979, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Bonnie spent much of her childhood moving around the world as part of a military family before eventually making the Augusta area home. She spent many of her formative years in Harlem, Georgia, graduating from Harlem High School in 1998. Bonnie's childhood and teenage years could perhaps best be summed up by one of her favorite songs at the time, Cyndi Lauper's “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” She and her friends even got matching haircuts inspired by Cyndi herself.

On January 12, 2002, Bonnie welcomed her daughter, Madison Weathersbee, who became the greatest joy of her life. She was Madison's biggest cheerleader and continually encouraged her to dream big, to serve others, and to become everything she was capable of becoming. Some of Madison's most treasured memories with her mom are not necessarily the biggest moments, but the ordinary ones—the car rides home from school singing together to early-2000s throwbacks, grabbing Starbucks and wandering through Target together, or simply laughing together on the couch.

From a young age, Bonnie had a special love for animals. After years of riding lessons, she got her first horse, Dolly, at just 12 years old, beginning a lifelong love of horses. Bonnie and Dolly competed in dressage for many years, earning numerous awards and forming an incredibly special bond. Many years later, Bonnie had the opportunity to introduce Madison to Dolly, sparking that same love of animals in her daughter. Later, they welcomed a horse of their own, Ducks. Some of Madison's fondest childhood memories are the years they spent together with Ducks, as Bonnie taught her daughter how to ride and care for a horse, sharing with Madison something that had brought Bonnie joy since she was a little girl.

Her heart for animals extended especially to dogs, and throughout her life, some of Bonnie's happiest adventures were made better with a dog by her side. Her two Boxers, Hazel and Daisy, were her best friends and constant companions for many years. She spent her later years with her beloved German Shepherd, Gunner. Though Bonnie herself would have been the first to say he was a handful, he brought her many years of joy, companionship, and plenty of stories to tell.

Bonnie was creative by nature and loved making things beautiful. Whether she was making wreaths, scrapbooking, or curating the most perfectly decorated Christmas tree she could imagine, Bonnie rarely did anything halfway when creativity was involved.

She also loved to travel, perhaps a love first sparked by some of her earliest childhood memories while her family was stationed in Greece and Italy. Bonnie was just as happy sitting on a warm, tropical beach as she was exploring New England in the fall or road-tripping across the country to see some of America's greatest national parks with her dogs along for the adventure. Closer to home, she loved being on the lake and the simple happiness that came with a day spent near the water.

For many years, another meaningful part of Bonnie's life was serving on medical mission trips with The Great Commission, Inc. Through those trips, she had the opportunity to share with others the same love and hope of Jesus that she had known, while helping bring life-changing medical care to communities in need. Her years of service allowed her to play a small but important part in a much larger mission that has brought medical care and the message of Christ to tens of thousands of people around the world.

Though Bonnie's time on earth ended far sooner than those who loved her were ready for, her story does not end here. Her family finds peace in knowing that she is now at home with her Father in Heaven, and that every laugh she shared, every memory she made, and every ounce of love she gave will live on in the hearts and lives of those she touched.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Madison Weathersbee; her father, Ralph Johnson; her mother, Barbara Johnson (Crowder); her sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Todd Hanchey; her nephews, Kenny Lucas and Joe Hanchey; her niece, Abbi Hanchey; and many other beloved extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Crowder; her paternal grandparents, Russell and Pauline Johnson; her uncles Richard, Robert, and Mickey Johnson; and her aunt, Sandra Ham.

A memorial service celebrating Bonnie’s life will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia 30907. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
