Bobby James Hunt Sr. (Pawpaw), age 86, passed away June 30, 2026 at his home in Evans, Georgia. He was born February 13, 1940, in Shawmut, Alabama, to George Hunt and Carrie Lee Irvin of Shawmut, both deceased. Bobby was the step-son of Joseph Smith, deceased, who was the man he held in his heart as his father and his children knew as their grandfather.

Pawpaw was the daddy of 3 children, Deborah Ann Donald (Cecil), both deceased, Barbara Janet Stanley (Mark) and Bobby James Hunt Jr (Suzanne).

Bobby was Pawpaw to everyone but especially his 5 grand kids and 1 great grand daughter. Carrie Gunter, married to Jamie Gunter, siblings Autumn and Adam Stanley, siblings Joel and Violet hunt and his great grand-daughter Alice Gunter. While not his biological grand children he was also Pawpaw to Amanda Marie Bartlett and Deanne Cannon in his heart and theirs.

Pawpaw had 1 sister, Shirley Martin, deceased, and 1 brother, Darrel Wayne Smith, 1 half-brother Tommy Hunt and 1 half-sister Dee Walters.

Pawpaw had many friends, his longest and closest friend being Thomas Wayne Hanson. He was also longtime friends of Marie Sparks, Dan and Sherrie Willes, Dell and Ed Perry and Joanne and Allen Arnold.

Pawpaw was divorced from the love of his life, Frances Marie Wood, of Atlanta, Georgia. While marriage did not work out Bobby and Marie shared a deep and meaningful love that would be the envy of the most poetic love story ever told. Pawpaw's love for Marie would call into question the lyrics of George Jones' biggest hit...it is highly doubtful he stopped loving her today.

Pawpaw was retired from the International Brotherhood of Electricians, Local 613, Atlanta, Georgia after 32 years. He was also co-owner of AAA Electrical Contractors with Bobby Jr. He loved to fish, read, cook hamburgers on the grill, take care of his family and pull for the Georgia Bulldogs. Pawpaw was a “DAMNED GOOD DAWG”.

Pawpaw was fully devoted to his children. He was the kind of man who, in the early 70's, took on the responsibility of raising 3 kids by himself after his marriage to Marie failed. In an era when it was more common for divorced fathers to be in their kids’ lives every other weekend Pawpaw was there 24/7/365, caring, nurturing, teaching and being Daddy to 3 kids who will forever be grateful for the sacrifices he made for them. In 1995, at the age of 55, when his first grand-daughter, Carrie, was orphaned by the death of her mother Debbie, he never hesitated to step in and raise her as his daughter. This wasn't a sacrifice to him – it’s what being a man meant to him before all else. Debbie, Barbara, Bobby Jr. and Carrie would not be the people they became without his love, patience, kindness and dedication. Pawpaw taught us to love deeply, to be loyal, care for others and worry about the things we could control and let the things in life we could not control take care of themselves. This was his life's philosophy and each of us has a healthy dose of that in our own world view. We love you Pawpaw and will forever remember the laughs, the tears, the good times and the love and warmth we always felt in your presence. Thank you, Pawpaw, and GO DAWGS!
