Bernadette Marie Engler, 73, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 18, 2021 at her residence, surrounded by her friends. Born on September 19, 1947 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Charlotte Engler. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Don Novotny and her sister Celeste Holmes of Arizona. She is survived by many close friends and family members including 4 nieces; Christine (Tina) Smith, Angela Lyons, Lee Ann Crugnale, and Mary Beth Ehrhardt and 3 nephews; Dan Stanislavski, Rob Stanislavski, and Rick Stanislavski. After working at Sears Headquarters in Chicago for 2 years and Honeywell Inc. for 7 years, Berni began employment with Thermal Ceramics (Formerly Babcock & Wilcox, now Morgan Advanced Materials). Her work at Thermal Ceramics spanned a total of 43 years, including a move to Augusta, Georgia in 2003 where she eventually retired in 2016.Berni enjoyed gardening, shopping, needlepoint, playing piano, Italian beef and Chicago Pizza. Berni was an active member of Central Church of Christ in Martinez, GA. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. As one of her care givers so appropriately mentioned “Ms. Berni may be gone from our sight, but she will never be gone from our hearts”.
