Barbara Elizabeth Carter Malson Stoudemire was born in Macon, Georgia on December 06, 1955 to William Huson Carter and Margaret Ann Carter of Beech Island, SC. She was the middle of three children and was preceded in death by both parents as well as her older brother William/Billy Isaac Carter (Ruth) of Juneau, Alaska. She is survived by her beloved sister Rebecca Ann Carter Wroblewski (Michael) of Martinez, Ga. When Barbara was six years old, the Carter family moved to Beech Island, SC where Barbara would end up spending the vast majority of her life.
While married to her first husband and living in Kansas City, Missouri, she gave birth to her son Bobbie Lee Malson, III (Kimberly) and her daughter Christian Michelle Malson Little (Jason). After her 10-year marriage ended, she moved back to Beech Island, leaving behind her treasured mother-in-law Violet Malson.
Safely back in Beech Island, Barbara and her babies lived with her parents for a short time. She began work at Dupont in June 1984 and retired from Westinghouse 24-1/2 years later. In 1985, she was able to build a home beside her parents on Old Jackson Hwy. Around the same time, she asked a neighbor she’d known since childhood to install a basketball goal for her son. She offered the neighbor payment in the form of a home-cooked meal. At some point, Barbara’s daughter said to him, “I sure wish you were my daddy,” and the rest was history.
Barbara remarried in 1988 on her 33rd birthday. A handsome NAVY veteran, Norman Arthur Stoudemire became her husband and added two adult sons to their now blended family- Norman Glenn Stoudemire (Gloria) and Steven Anthony Stoudemire (Holly). Norman worked hard to help provide for her and her children, whom he loves like his own.
As the years passed, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought additional joy to the family. Zachary (Samantha) Stoudemire and their son Declan, Bruce Stoudemire and his daughter Brenley, Chandler Lee Stewart (fiancé Alexis Savannah Pruett), Gabrielle Elise Malson, Layla Rose Stoudemire, Carter Evan Little, Ayden James Stoudemire, Immanuel Alexander Malson, and Hailey Pearl Stoudemire.
Since the 1980s, Barbara attended numerous country music concerts with her best friend Dianne Storey Brown. They frequently traveled to Sevierville, TN where they often saw Dolly Parton perform and loved to watch her lead the opening day parade at DollyWood.
Barbara passed away on September 29, 2026, surrounded by family at Wellstar MCG in Augusta. She expired at the age of 70 after a sudden and unexpected onset of cancer.
Barbara was a loving daughter, cherished sister and cousin, devoted wife, doting mother and Nana, faithful friend, talented seamstress and flower enthusiast, and a forever cat lover. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved her.
Wanting to honor her wishes, Barbara’s children have arranged for her to be cremated. She was an organ donor whose eyes were harvested so that others might receive the gift of sight. She did not want a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local SPCA or adopt a cat. Mama would love that!
